Sell Your Scrap Car
When your vehicle is no longer serving its purpose, you may consider selling your scrap car or truck. However, it is sometimes difficult to sell your vehicle, especially if it has mechanical or cosmetic issues. Old or damaged cars may not sell if you advertise in the newspaper or online; fortunately, there are many scrap car buyers that offer disposal services specifically to help you get cash for your clunker.
Through Donation Line, you can sell virtually any vehicle for scrap, including trucks, vans, cars, and SUVs. You can junk your car whether or not it is in running condition. To obtain a fast quote on your scrap car, simply call us toll-free at 877-227-7487 or complete the Request A Quote form.
Good Car or Scrap Car
If your car is in decent condition and does not have any serious cosmetic or functional problems, you may be able to sell your car without much trouble. However, for older and seriously-damaged vehicles, it may be more beneficial to junk your car and sell it for parts or salvage. It will also be much faster and convenient to sell for scrap than to try to sell it to a private buyer.
Can I sell my car for scrap without a title?
Yes. In many states, you can sell your car for scrap, even if you have lost your title. If you can prove ownership with an old registration and driver’s license, you can often sell your car for junk without a title. We cannot accept abandoned vehicles. If the title is lost, you must typically have your registration or some method to prove that you are the owner of the vehicle. You can also get duplicate titles from your DMV for a small fee.
How do I sell my car without a title?
If your state requires a title before selling, there are steps you can take to recoup the necessary documents to proceed with your scrap car sale.
- Check with your bank.
You may have taken a car loan to pay for the car. This means the bank would still have a copy of the title of the car. Contact the bank and find out how much you still owe for the car. Make sure this amount is covered in your junk car sale transaction so that you won’t incur any losses or have to shell out money instead of earning some. When this balance is settled, then you would finally have a copy of the title to sell the car with.
- Get a duplicate title from your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
When you buy a car, you register it with your local DMV, and so information is stored in their database. This information can be retrieved if you ever need a replacement title (let’s face it: losing a copy of the title is not that uncommon). Once you realize you don’t have a copy of your title, it would be best to request for a replacement as soon as possible as it may take time. Not all DMV sites can issue it on the spot.
What do you need to present when requesting a duplicate title?
- A copy of your driver’s license
- The vehicle’s registration
- Vehicle identification number
- DMV title number
- Vehicle tag number
Or the requirements you brought when registering your car for the first time.
There may be a replacement fee for getting a duplicate title. It would be wise to call your local DMV ahead of time. You might be lucky enough to be able to do it online or find a branch that offers on-site replacement, so you would need to go there once.
- Identify if you have a “salvage title” for your junk car. Some people are fine with fixing and driving cars that have been deemed unfit to drive or have had significant damage in the past. These cars are tagged as having a “salvage title.” When your junk car has a salvage title, and you decide to sell, be ready to make compromises as far as cost goes. The same goes for junk cars that have no title whatsoever.
- You can still sell your junk car without a title for cash — to a junkyard Let’s say that you, the owner, are fine with selling it at a loss as long as you don’t see it in your yard ever again. Selling your junk car for cash to a junkyard is also an option. You may also get paid on the spot.
Junkyards will not sell your junk car. Instead, they will take it apart and sell the parts. They won’t even mind if your car is no longer running as long as you take care of the towing.
How much is my scrap car worth?
When you sell your car for scrap, the return will vary considerably based on several different factors. A vehicle with all of its parts intact will typically bring in more money. The amount of cash you can earn for scrap cars also depends on the vehicle’s year, make, model and mileage. Also, the location of the vehicle can affect the price. Scrap cars typically bring more money in major population centers. And of course, if it still runs and drives, the price can go up. But don’t be discouraged if you have a non-running piece of junk, it still has some value in today’s market.
